Our collection has grown over two and a half centuries, with objects and documents donated by Gunners of all ranks, civilians, other museums, public bodies, governments and even a number of reigning monarchs! We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated to the collection, helping it to become one of the most important military collections in the UK.

We continue to collect objects and documents that relate to the Royal Artillery or artillery in general, but with such a large collection (and limited storage space) we try to avoid collecting items that are not relevant to these stories, or duplicates of examples we already hold. For example, we always accept Royal Artillery medals into the collection, but we very rarely accept medals awarded to other Regiments or Corps unless there is a direct link to a Gunner story.

We regularly accept photographs, but for these to be useful to future researchers it is helpful to have as much information as possible about each photograph, for example: when and where was it taken, who are the people shown, and what Regiment or Battery were they in?

To enquire about donating an object or document, please complete the form below. It helps us if you can provide as much information as possible about the item, along with some good clear photos. We will then take this information to our monthly Acquisition Panel meeting, and they decide whether the item fits with our collecting policy. We’ll be in touch as soon as we can to let you know their decision, and also to discuss the delivery of the item if appropriate.

We ask that you do not send any items until we ask you to do so, and then only the items which have been approved by our panel.
