With around 2,500 pieces, our collection of ammunition is particularly extensive. There are projectiles of every shape and size, both ancient and modern, from the earliest solid stone and iron shot fired by smooth-bore guns to a wide variety of different designs for rifled artillery. These include round shot, grape, shrapnel, case, canister, percussion, shell, chemical, incendiary, star, armour-piercing and illumination rounds together with their fuzes and cartridges.

Other ammunition in our collection ranges in size from the smallest hand grenades to an example of the shell fired by the 18 inch Railway Howitzer, and even a 1,000kg bomb dropped on the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich by the German airforce during WW2.
