Our library is one of the oldest parts of the collection and contains a number of unique books from the 1700s and 1800s, one of the earliest being a Book of Common Prayer published in 1715 and owned by Albert Borgard, the first Commander of the Royal Artillery. However, the library is primarily a reference collection with books relating to specific Royal Artillery units and conflicts in which the Regiment was involved. Royal Artillery publications in the library include the official Regimental Histories, back issues of Gunner Magazine (which started in 1919) and the Royal Artillery Journal (first published in 1858 as the Proceedings of the Royal Artillery Institute).
There is also an extensive technical collection of books on artillery equipment, including gun handbooks, training pamphlets, range tables and maintenance manuals, mostly relating to the wide variety of artillery pieces used by the Royal Artillery from the late nineteenth century onwards..
