We always accept Gunner medals into the collection, and they are held in perpetuity as a memorial to the men and women who have served in the Regiment. The collection now numbers over 11,000 orders, medals and decorations with examples of nearly every type awarded to members of the Royal Artillery. These represent both campaign medals and those given for gallantry, including 21 of the 62 Victoria Crosses awarded to Gunners.

Our collection contains medal groups associated with famous Gunner Officers, such as Major General Sir Alexander Dickson and his son General Sir Collingwood Dickson, Field Marshall the Lord Milne, Field Marshall the Viscount Alanbrooke, and Field Marshall the Lord Ironside (the latter including one medal awarded by the German Army while he was working undercover in South Africa). Among the more surprising items in the collection are Distinguished Flying Crosses awarded to two Gunners who flew as Air Observation Post pilots (Captain Ian Kendal and Captain P J McLinden).
